I am interested in the genetics of chloroplast and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). At LSSU my work has focused primarily on mtDNA. A student and I recently determined that hybridization between Chinook and Pink Salmon is unidirectional with female Chinook always contributing the mtDNA. I am currently using microsatellite DNA markers to study the genetic diversity of several Great Lakes fish species, including Lake Whitefish, Round Whitefish, and Lake Sturgeon.
