Interested in how the biotic and abiotic environments shape the ecology and evolution of fish populations. Approaches to research include whole-stream manipulations, field observations by radiotelemetry, behavioral experiments in the laboratory and microscopic examination of fish anatomy. In recent years, has focused on the study of invasive fish species and their management in the Great Lakes Region.
